You will be told if it is available or not. If it is just go thru the purchase process to get it.
You can change the domain name ending (such as .com) by clicking the down arrow beside the .com in the Domain Name search box.

Don't get
hung up in the choosing of your domain name.
The main thing is to get a Website setup.
We just need a domain name to do that.
.com is the best choice if you can get
the name that you want.
.info is a general purpose about some
subject that you are interested in, so it is a good choice if you are having
trouble selecting one.
If the one you are searching for is available you will see something like this.
Just Click Add and
Proceed to Checkout.
Note: You will be presented with a few other offers, but all you need now is
a domain name.

Create an account so you can control your domain name.
You will need to come back here to enter the nameservers of your hosting when you get it.
When you fill in your information and click the Continue button you should see the image below
At this point you are shown your Login ID
and asked for the password you want to use.
Enter that and write down the Login ID and the password you chose.
You will need this later to login and set the NameServer information once you
have obtained your Hosting. Your hosting company will tell you what the
nameserver information is for your hosting.
Print out this page and save it.
